The teams scored four goals in the first 11 minutes, the four fastest goals ever scored in a Champions League match, and the match only got wilder from there.

Tottenham players celebrate at the end of Wednesday's match. By Jacob Bogage Jacob Bogage National sports writer and blogger Email Bio Follow April 17 at 4:46 PM The second leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal between Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur got off to a historically frantic start Wednesday, and the drama only seemed to build from there, culminating with a video assistant referee decision that proved to be the difference.

With Tottenham minutes away from a miraculous win and the clock down to the final two minutes of stoppage time, an ill-advised pass in the Spurs’ defensive half gave Manchester City the chance to move on. Bernardo Silva flicked a ball ahead to Sergio Aguero, who chipped it back inside for Raheem Sterling, who blasted in what would have been the deciding goal. VAR showed Aguero was a yard offside. The goal was waved off and the Spurs escaped with the win.

The teams scored four goals in the first 11 minutes, two for each side; it was the four fastest goals ever scored in a Champions League match. But Manchester City responded by taking the kickoff and pushing the ball down the pitch. Bernardo Silva wound up with it outside the six-yard box and smacked a shot that ricocheted off Tottenham defender Danny Rose and past keeper Hugo Lloris.
