She collapsed face down on the floor, as Simpson sat in the corner of the room, his hands covered in blood. Miss Quigley was so horrified at the scene that she ran to the front door of the pub and shrieked into the street for help.A policeman, who was passing, went to help and was met by the sight of Annie lying in a pool of blood. On the table next to Simpson was an open razor, similar to that used by barbers.
Annie's sister Edith also gave evidence. She said her sister had spoken fondly of Simpson and written a letter, telling her sweetheart she would marry him regardless of her father's views. On Monday, August 2, two days before the wedding was supposed to take place, Edith had seen her sister and Simpson together on Grimshaw Street. Both seemed distressed, she said.
