“It was a long, lonely slog at times'
Ultra-runner Colin Green has become the first person to run the entire 200 miles of the Greater Manchester Ringway walking trail all in one go.
Colin set off at 8am on Friday 3 May from Greenfield station, only 400 metres from his house. His wife, Jane, helped him along the way, transporting kit, dehydrated meals, drinks, and snacks to keep him going.The challenge took four days to complete and Colin only slept for eight hours - averaging less than 3 hours of shut-eye a night. He returned to Greenfield Station at 8.12pm, on Monday 6 May, having run through all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester in just 84 hours and 12 minutes.
The Greater Manchester Ringway is a walking trail that covers all of the region's ten boroughs. Colin considered himself lucky for this May’s mild temperatures, and a couple of downpours on Friday night and Monday evening worked to keep him cool. Colin crashed into bed as soon as the challenge was complete, but has his eyes set on completing another 268-mile Spine Race along the Pennine Way, in a few weeks’ time.
