That's because her best friend happened to be Guinevere , whom Arthur fell instantly in love with.
6 Arthur Wants To Retire When Mordred Becomes King Arthur clears some time to spend with Guineneve away from the kingdom, with the two heading to a field. This is where Arthur makes it clear that once Mordred takes the throne when he turns 15, he fully intends to step away and become a farmer. Guinevere seems surprised by this news and doesn't appear to fully believe it either. Despite Arthur's wishes for a simpler life, being a ruler is part of his destiny.
3 Nimue Wages War On The Christians One of the big subplots of Winter King episode 8 involves Arthur reluctantly allowing the creepy Bishop Samsum to build a Christian settlement at Avalon. This is something Arthur had promised in exchange for Samsum holding a wedding ceremony for Arthur and Guinevere. When they start construction at Avalon, they are confronted by "Lady of the Lake" Nimue, whose belief in the "Old Gods" of Britain puts her at odds with the Christians.
2 Gorfydd Has Bishop Bedwin Killed Gorfydd is unnaturally friendly to Morgan when she arrives in Powys, and claims Bedwin is to thank for the negotiations going so well. That night, Gorfydd holds a feast for his guests, with Ceinwyn also inquiring of Derfel if Arthur and Guinevere are happy; he says they are. The merriment soon turns sour when it's clear Gorydd has forgiven nothing, and he takes Morgan and Derfel outside and they see the king is having Bedwin crucified.
