.hfmetgala’s founders, a group of 11 young women, are aware that they were ahead of the curve. But after the outpouring of submissions for HFMetGala2020 and international media attention, the group is taking on a more daunting challenge: what to do next.

The 11 organizers of the HF Twitter Met Gala: Alejandra Beltrán, 21, is from Bogotá, Colombia; Chloe Kennedy, 19, is from Houston, Texas; Jana Dragićević, 15, hails from Belgrade, Serbia; Margaux Merz, 19, is from Ann Arbor, Michigan; Perla Montan, 19, is from Massachusetts and currently studying in Paris; Aria Olson, 19, is from Kansas City, Missouri; Raebele, 18, is from the Philippines; Rebeca Spitz, 20, is from Washington, D.C.

Since the May 4 event, the organizers have been contacted by two documentary film crews and a number of fashion brands. This follows a partnership with Oscar de la Renta on the night of the HFTMG event and Thom Browne dressing Olson in look one from its fall 2020 collection for the occasion. The team is also working on a partnership with the closet-rental app Wardrobe, based in New York City.

“I feel like I’m still opinionated, but I’m also more intentional with the things that I post. Now that we have built up this platform, I want to be able to use my personal platform and our joint platform to do things that are more progressive and can actually incite change within the industry,” says 19-year-old Chloe Kennedy from Houston, Texas. “I still make my opinions known.

As the group plans for their future, they’ve outlined aspects of the fashion industry they’re intent on improving. “I think the main things we’ve decided to focus on are sustainability, diversity, [and the] ethical production of garments. At the core, we want to make sure that we’re being good people because we have such a big platform and we have people listening to us that weren’t listening to us before,” says Senam Attipoe, 20, from Elkridge, Maryland.
