Valerie Casler initially told police she had found a memory card containing gruesome images of an apparent murder on a street in Anchorage, but later changed her story. She explained the change in her story Wednesday in a jury trial against Brian Smith.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Valerie Casler, a key witness in the Brian Smith murder trial, testified before a jury Wednesday.
“In the hotel room, it showed her laying on the ground — on the rug — and she was, like, all beat up. I mean her face was not even recognizable, and he was hitting her and telling her she isn’t going to leave the hotel alive, that he’s killing her,” Casler testified.″He’s propping her up and posing her in different ways and playing with her,” Casler said as she described to jurors what she saw.
Casler said she had initially lied about it because she did not want to be arrested for theft or attempted prostitution.Casler also said that she knew the victim, Henry, but wasn’t able to recognize her in the videos because of her injuries.
