Deepwater Junior High School thespians won the Spotlight Award and other honors in a recent University Interscholastic League one-act play competition. The school's play was “Bus Stop” by Kendra Thomas.Scene-stealers, showstoppers and team players alike were rewarded with honors at a University Interscholastic League junior high one-act play contest that was staged Nov. 5 in Deer Park.
The production’s assistant stage manager, Savannah Yancey, was chosen the school’s best technician. She shared the best crew accolade with fellow Fairmont students Rahaf Abel, Dayne Jones, Jaxon Neitz, Lizzy Raney, Lauren Terry, Mia Valdez and Kerri Ward. The Deer Park Junior High production’s best technician award went to Ryah Howell, whose lighting followed the action throughout many changing scenes. Howell said she accomplished the feat “from memory” but also kept handy a written list of light cues.
“These students worked so hard throughout the rehearsal process, bonded as an ensemble, grew as actors and technicians and absolutely sparkled on and off the stage,” Lammey said.
