The Hog in a Blanket at Meat Boss in Mobile is known as 'a huge crowd pleaser.'
The name of the place is Meat Boss and you know what you ordered for breakfast, so the sight of it shouldn’t shock you. But it still kind of does.
Meat Boss started small back in 2012. “We were just what I call an indoor food truck,” said Mrs. Boss. “It was just one little counter, we made the sandwiches and the sides all in that one little area. It was all takeout. We added a couple of picnic tables out on the porch just for people to be able to sit and wait on their food.Courtesy of Dara Chinnis
As word of mouth grew, the lunch rush got to be so intense that the couple decided to expand the restaurant’s hours and add some seating. That happened a few years after they opened and that’s when they began to offer breakfast. But more changes came courtesy of the pandemic. “That’s what he would eat and some of the employees would eat,” said Dara Chinnis. “Because even before we did breakfast, he would cook breakfast for the crew. What they would do, they’d get grits, they’d get eggs, they’d get home fries and pile it all together with meat on top of it. That’s how they would eat it every morning.”
