A youth camp is one of the ways James Smith Cree Nation is healing through tradition and culture.
On Sept. 4, 2022, 11 people were killed and 17 were injured in the two communities. Myles Sanderson, 32, was identified as the sole killer.
Staff at BCCS wanted to set up a cultural camp for the youth, which took place in May. Burns says the community needs a private space for people to seek supports because some are reluctant to visit the clinic or band office, which are more public.
