Meet Alabama musician Chelsea Burton-Felder and see why some think that soon, she's going to be big 🎤
Chelsea, Who? is prepping her next EP, which she’s been working on for about 18 months. She hope to release the yet-to-be-titled project – a collaboration with Nashville based producer Brian Nathan – in the fall. Of this new material she says, “I’ve grown a lot vocally. Figuring out what I like, and not worrying so much about what sounds perfect on a track, but what am I feeling when I sing and conveying that and track.
It’s the first time Chelsea, Who’s has worked with an outside producer. On previous releases, she handled production duties herself, recording in the cozy bedroom she shared with her two young children. On the debut EP and following singles, her production instincts were strong though. Lush yet minimal. Heartfelt but not overcooked.
As a child, Chelsea played coronet and attended an arts school. That music-theory background combined with her bedroom-pop auteur instincts shape the sound of such songs as “Anxiety” from 2018. “It was never my intention to be a producer,” the Lee High School grad recalls. “I was just at a point where I wanted to make original music. I didn’t have any money but I knew I had the skill and the musical ear to be able to do it. I was learning how to produce as I went. It was an experiment.
Chelsea, Who? will perform May 27 at Huntsville arts center Lowe Mill, address 2211 Seminole Drive, as part of Concerts on the Dock. The beloved outdoor music series returns April 22 with a performance by rock singer/songwriter Sylvia Rose Novak. The series’ 2022 season also features TGTG & Peruvian Coin , The Blips , Nossa Samba and Cheyloe Martin . Concerts on the Dock shows are free and start at 6 p.m. Parking is $5.
