The speakeasy-style bar features neon signs, a lavish red stage, and photos from the Manchester institution's varied archive
One of the first things that people will notice when walking into Band On The Wall’s new bar, besides the lavish red stage and the copper top fixture, is a big neon sign indicating there’s ‘no sleep in Brooklyn’.
Band On The Wall’s new bar - The Copper Bar - opens for the first time this Friday and takes more than a little bit of inspiration from those fabled streets of Brooklyn and, in fact, it’s even been created with the assistance of some of the big-leagues within the New York borough. "We’d done a project with the Heritage Lottery Fund where we dug through the history, and we saw this as a chance to really show that off.”
Matched with a state-of-the-art sound system, Gavin says he hopes the bar will continue to do what Band on The Wall, which is a non-profit, has done over the years and bring in talent from across different genres and give them a platform to showcase their craft. “Having watched a load of YouTube videos, I decided I would give it a go myself,” Gavin explained. “I had a mate who repairs saxophone and I asked him if he had any irreparable and he had a box full. I went down to a plant yard where they had a massive roller and asked if they would roll them.
