Twelve of the 28 players on the A’s roster Friday are experiencing their first Opening Day in the majors.
Caught off guard, the tears flowed as the 27-year-old realized he’d be a big leaguer.
Kotsay, who made his major-league debut as a player in Philadelphia in 1998, had quite a few similar conversations as the A’s broke camp. Oakland has 12 players on the roster who are active on Opening Day for the first time in their careers. Jackson is one of three A’s players in the majors for the first time along with fellow pitchers Jake Lemoine and Adam Oller. There are also nine other players who have appeared in different stints at the big league level, but have never experienced the grandeur of Opening Day.
An even-keeled personality, Moll is not overly excited for the season opener, but he is appreciative to be able to enjoy the experience with his family.
