Meet Shy Smith, a 20-year-old creator from Québec City, Canada whose TikTok page is a trip back in time to the 2000s.

Smith was born in the early 2000s, and embraces the era rather than cringes at it. “The fashion was liberating and eye-catching,” she says. “Everything was just fun and daring, from the mini skirts to the colorful tracksuits and revealing clothing. Mini skirts, tracksuits, and low-rise jeans are essentials in my everyday wardrobe.
Below, Smith discusses what’s in her closet, her love of thrifting, and why she’s “bringing back” celebrity culture.My ideas just come to me from anywhere and anything. I can be watching an old movie or see a magazine, music video, concert, and instantly have an idea for a photoshoot or a TikTok. I like to come up with concepts for videos based on outfits or current projects.TikTok. Paris Hilton, Kimora Lee Simmons, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian were all inspirations to me growing up. They all played a big part in setting trends and they were wearing what’s hot. I remember watchingfor your TikToks is also on point for the 2000s. Who are some of your favorite artists?
Anything from my personal Y2K playlist. I love Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Christina Aguilera. The music from that era inspires in many ways, I have a song for every mood.by Britney Spears is one of my favorite albums of all time and “Gimme More” is definitely my favorite song on there to create with and listen to. It had such an impact on me. From the sound, to the visuals, to the whole tabloid culture surrounding Britney at that time.
