The NBA season returns in two weeks in Orlando and a ton is at stake. For these three NBA superstars, the stakes are so high that they have the most to lose.
Anthony Davis, forward, Los Angeles Lakers
An unrestricted free agent this summer, Davis is expected to re-sign in L.A. on a supermax contract. But LeBron James is 35 now and, contrary to popular belief, won’t be amazing forever. And factoring the supermax, LeBron and The Brow are going to take up a higher percentage of the Lakers’ salary cap next season, making it more difficult to surround the duo with premium talent.
So with the Lakers headed towards the West’s top seed, this could be Davis’ best title shot. Because of that, he has a ton to lose this summer and fall in Orlando.Getty ImagesLet’s just assume that Harden and Russell Westbrook get healthy and arrive safely in Orlando in time for the restart, though it’s sadly not a given as this is being typed.
Harden turns 31 on Aug. 26 and will probably have a new coach next season implement his or her preferred style. Houston will have little to no cap space or draft capital to improve the roster going forward. Is this Harden’s shot? It’s certainly possible, leaving him with a ton to lose in Orlando.Getty ImagesThe 30-year-old, six-time All-Star asked for and received a trade from Indiana to Oklahoma City three summers ago.
