How a Black woman in Houston used TikTok to become a force in the funeral home industry

Founder John Wynn said he noticed a difference in Ali-Williams' work and the service she provides beyond the traditional, transactional service he associates with mortuaries.

She opened All People's Funeral Home in 2000, shortly after mustering the strength to leave an abusive marriage. " can come in here angry and leave as if they're planning a birthday party," employee Ashley Thomas said Wednesday. She said every family receives"first class" service regardless of their budget.

Death care was not a career path Ali-Williams saw for herself early on. She once dreamed of becoming a police officer to help those in despair, but when she applied she was told that she wasn't big enough.
