Another would follow at the 14th before he found water at the 15th and 16th to record double bogeys at each.
He marched to the 17th tee chewing a piece of gum like it released anaesthetic. To his credit he creamed his tee shot, finding the left side of the fairway. By this time the rain was coming down in sheets, rendering useless the protective clothing worn by the players. Gripping the club was a complicated challenge let alone selecting the right number.
Woods duly missed the green with his approach, his ball leaking into the lake formerly known as the bunker to the front right of the green. And to that godless place he must return at 8.30am should he decide there is still a point to it all.
