We chat with SpinningGold writer and director Tim Bogart about how he approached casting these real-life legends and what it was like collaborating with Jeremy Jordan:
Spinning Gold tells the story of Neil Bogart's rise to prominence in the music industry and his journey to create Casablanca Records. Bogart worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry before creating Casablanca Records, including Bill Withers, Gladys Knight, and the Isley Brothers. He also is credited with the discovery of legends Donna Summer and KISS.
Screen Rant spoke with Tim Bogart about writing and directing Spinning Gold, which is the story of his father, Neil Bogart. He reveals how this movie helped him better understand his father and why he was inspired to tell this story. Bogart also breaks down the casting process and collaborating with Jordan.
Can you talk about the casting process specifically finding the right actors to bring your parents and these music icons to life? Can you talk about collaborating with Jeremy Jordan to really capture your father with his performance? Yeah, this is a story that I wasn't really privy to. Did Spinning Gold help you understand your father's story better?
Tim Bogart: Ultimately, the thing that surprised me most was that this larger than life, group of characters were terrified. When people think about Casablanca, they go, "Oh, success, Kiss success." It was none of those things. It was a tragedy waiting to happen on hourly basis and that was kept from us kids. So to learn, it wasn't just my father all of these people knew that they were the brink of disaster at every moment.
