Clement revealed Cantwell has asked him for an exit this summer
The midfielder has been frequently linked with a move away and his social media activity over the summer has got fans talking over whether he has a future under Clement. He was left out of the squad to face Birmingham in Wednesday night's friendly, but that didn't initially appear to be the endgame, with the boss saying before the game that various players were left home with a view to starting against Union Berlin on Saturday.
He did announce before the game that Connor Goldson had been granted leave to finalise a move away, expected to be to Aris Limassol in Cyprus. And speaking after the match, the boss dropped the bombshell that Cantwell has now asked for permission to leave. Clement said: "Todd Cantwell has asked to leave the club. I spoke to him further and he then came back to me with the same request." Cantwell had been linked with a move to Cardiff City and it now appears his time at Ibrox is over.
