A row over claims about a report on the future of Pendle leisure centres has broken-out, with Labour allegations of secrecy being described as ‘lies’ by Conservatives – and a leisure trust boss advising people to ignore social media posts on ‘closures’.
And Labour Coun Zafar Ali, who also sits on the Nelson Town Deal Board linked to the Nelson Town Deal, added: “The Town Deal Board has committed over £2 million pounds to improve Wavelengths, yet Pendle Tories are proposing to close this much-used facility along with Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne. The Tories are trying to fool people about a new facility to be built at Seedhill costing money which has not even been identified. I urge people to sign the petition to oppose this closure.
In it, she stated: “I would like to reassure you and confirm that what you may have seen on social media, relating to some of our leisure centres, is not true. Like every year in the lead-up to local elections, politicians provoke each other. “Throughout 2022, Pendle Council and Pendle Leisure Trust have carried out a review of leisure services across the borough. This canvassed thoughts and opinions from all-parties and a range of stakeholders, including the NHS.
“Therefore, this is a proposal from independent consultants, not anyone’s plan, and there is nothing ‘secret’ about it.
