Conservatives in South Ribble have been left red-faced over election leaflets which say they have left areas "debt ridden".
Campaigning for the May 4 ballot has stepped up in recent weeks as activists deliver leaflets and knock on doors in a bid to drum up support for candidates. But Tories in South Ribble have been provided with leaflets which have some unfortunate wording.The leaflets say local Conservative councillors’ achievements include taking their areas “from debt free to debt ridden”. The embarrassing gaffe has appeared on several different versions of the leaflet used by candidates across the borough.
“It’s about time the Conservatives backed Labour’s plan to freeze council tax funded by a proper windfall tax on oil and gas giants – to put money back in people’s pockets.”
