Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said older people should consider jobs they 'might not have otherwise thought of' if they do not have enough money.
A top Tory minister has been slammed as "out of touch" after he said over-50s should deliver pizzas if they are struggling for cash.
Scottish Labour slammed Stride as "out of touch" and said he would be unable to take up his own advice as "that would require him actually delivering something". He said of delivery companies: “What we’re seeing here is the ability to log on and off any time you like, no requirement to have to do a certain number of hours over a certain period of time, which is driving huge opportunities…
He also compared Stride's words to those of Thatcher era Tory minister Norman Tebbit during a period of high unemployment in the early 1980s. “It’ll be an economic crunch supper for two. That's if anyone can afford a takeaway of course with the Tory mortgage bombshell he’s also delivered.”
