'I truly appreciate everyone's support and love.' Former Providence School and University of Florida basketball star Patric Young is prepared for his 'toughest battle' as he recovers from serious injuries in a car crash.
Former Providence School and University of Florida forward Patric Young, two-time All-SEC basketball selection and a former All-First Coast player of the year from Jacksonville, said he is preparing for"the toughest battle in my life" as he recovers from serious injuries sustained in a car crash in Nebraska.
Young is currently receiving treatment at a trauma center in Sioux Falls, S.D. He did not elaborate on specific details regarding his injuries, but told the Times-Union,"This is going to be the toughest battle in my life. I've had two separate knee infections [in previous years while playing professional basketball in Europe] that I had to relearn how to walk from. Yes, this is a different fight, but mentally I am prepared for whatever may come.
A McDonald's All-American — one of only five boys basketball players to receive that award in Northeast Florida — Young began his high school career at Paxon School for Advanced Studies before transferring to Providence. He led the Stallions to the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A boys basketball championship in the 2009-10 season, earning the Times-Union's All-First Coast player of the year award.
Young twice received second-team All-SEC recognition at UF, in 2012-13 and 2013-14, and won the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award in 2014. He was also named SECin July 2014 but did not appear in a regular season NBA game. He subsequently played professional basketball in Turkey, Greece and Italy. A telecommunications major at Florida, he worked in broadcasting last season with the SEC Network.
