Three people including an American teenager were killed in a huge avalanche in Switzerland on Easter Monday, police have confirmed.
The Air Glaciers helicopter carried four tourists, a mountain guide and a pilotA tourist helicopter has crashed in the Swiss Alps today, killing three people and injuring another three.
Police say the helicopter slipped off the summit of the 3,668-metre mountain onto the north slope for reasons currently unknown. The aircraft rolled down the steep slope, causing a snow slide that buried it underneath, according to local media. 'Having reached the summit of a mountain culminating at 3,668 metres above sea level, for a reason that the investigation will have to determine, the aircraft slid down the northern slope,' Valais Police said in a statement.
A measuring station at a height of 2735 metres on the nearby Verbier mountain logged an average wind of 15mph and gusts of up to 26mph.
