Traders in Castle Douglas have been left stunned after being told they need a permit to put items on the pavement.Gillian Warden, who runs In House Chocolates on King Street, is one of those who was visited by a council employee.
He said: “We’ve been putting trolleys out there for 15 years and all of a sudden a woman turned up in the shop saying we had to pay £119.“We’ve had this shop for 15 years and we’ve been putting stuff out on the pavement from day one and this is the first we’ve heard of it.” “I have requested, through the relevant officer, that this matter be brought to committee for discussion, debate, and further clarification. My colleague, Councillor Ian Blake, who was the chair of the communities committee, has also asked for a report to be presented, with options to the new economy and infrastructure committee after the summer recess.
