We asked our readers to nominate people under 40 who are working to uplift their communities. They responded by telling us about trailblazers ranging from business owners to advocates and artists.
A reception to recognize people who are among PennLive’s “trailblazers and trendsetters — the next generation of Black leaders in central Pennsylvania — was held Monday at a restaurant owned by one of those trailblazers.
PennLive hosted the reception at Mellie Bellies Southern Barbecue, at 311 Second St. in Highspire. Attending were many of the 38 people who were nominated by PennLive readers as “trailblazers and trendsetters” who are These trailblazers include business owners, such as Mellie Bellie’s owner Bryan Sanders. Others are activists and advocates. Among their ranks are athletes turned coaches and mentors, or people running nonprofits, seeking to help those in need.
