Fifteen cars on a train operated by CSX derailed around 5 a.m. Monday in Whitemarsh, Montgomery County.
Officials said that no hazardous waste leaked from any of the train cars. The silicone pellets did spill on the ground, but officials said they posed no danger to the public.
Tetrachloroethylene can irritate the eyes, skin and lungs if inhaled in high concentrations, the Inquirer said. The 40-car train was riding on tracks owned by Norfolk Southern. Residents that had been evacuated were able to return to their homes by 9:30 a.m.The cause of the derailment is still unknown, reports said. The NTSB is investigating.
