A student police officer had nightmares about his boss 'trying to strangle him' before his tragic death, his father told an inquest.
Mr Abraham said his son had been struggling with the pressure of working as a trainee police officer alongside studying for an apprenticeship degree through Leeds Trinity University. Prior to the placement, Anu had been put on a development plan, the inquest heard. Mr Abraham said Anu’s behaviour changed after he started working as a trainee PC.
GP records showed that Anu visited his doctor in June 2022 and complained of suffering low mood, stress and anxiety, but did not identify any 'triggers' for his feelings. During the trip, Anu confided in friends about the pressures he was facing at work, the inquest heard. Hugh Davies, representing WYP, listed the support Anu had received, including from his sergeant and colleagues, and said the reason he was on a development plan was to support him. He also had an assessor and a mentor and was referred to occupational health as well as a counsellor, Mr Davies said.Help and support Samaritans samaritans.org operates a 24-hour service available every day of the year.
