Missouri health officials are admonishing vacationers that a video showed packing into a pool at the popular mid-Missouri Lake of the Ozarks over the Memorial Day weekend
, which now has over 20 million views, shows what appears to be hundreds of people packing into a pool with complete disregard for social distancing guidelines.
St. Louis County Executive Sam Page has issued a “travel advisory” for those who didn’t follow social distancing guidelines over the holiday weekend, saying that anyone who did should either self-quarantine for 14 days or get a negative test for coronavirus., Mayor John Olivarri said, but the St. Louisreported the mayor said it was not within his power to penalize businesses where social distancing guidelines may have been disregarded.
While Lake of the Ozarks is about midway between the state’s two major cities—St. Louis and Kansas City—the response to the video has been different on each side of the state, with the eastern city of St.
in the U.S. While the lake still serves that purpose, it’s now become known as a vacation destination that attracts some 3 million visitors every year, with over 70,000 homes now built along the lake.
