The Tri-C High School Rock Off, canceled in 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, will celebrate its belated 25th birthday this month at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
canceled in 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, will celebrate its belated 25th birthday this month at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The festivities kick off with preliminary rounds on March 5, March 12 and March 19, with the finals set for March 26.
“That was the day we were going to kick off entries … everything was seeming to be in our way,” Gabel said. “We still didn’t know what kind of protocols or even if we could do [the Rock Off]. But I was getting so many emails from parents and bands that had been sitting on the sideline, hoping that we would be able to do it.”
The first-place winner will take home $1,000, with another $250 going to their high school music program. The runner-up gets receives $250, and another $100 for their high school. Third place receives $100. All finalists will get to record an original song at Cuyahoga Community College, with production by Jim Stewart and students from Tri-C’s Recording Arts and Technology program.
