Published: Oct. 09, 2023, 6:59 p.m.WILLIAMSPORT – It could be more than a year before the federal wrongful death suit brought by the parents of a Penn State student who died following a fraternity hazing incident in 2017 is ready for trial.
Another factor in the delay, according to a filing Monday in U.S. Middle District Court, is the need by the defendants to depose the State College police detectives who investigated the Feb. 4, 2017, death. Under the revised case schedule proposed by Young and Casey, which is opposed by the Piazzas, discovery still would be conducted a year from now.
Claims in the suit include negligence, breaching a duty to care, intentional infliction of emotional distress, battery and conspiracy.of what occurred on Feb. 2, 2017, after Piazza and 13 other pledges arrived at the fraternity house:
