'A beautiful bass tone' 💔
Tom Young, of Stanhill, Oswaldtwistle, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 with his loving wife, Barbara, of nearly 40 years, comforting him. Tom was a talented musician who was blessed with a beautiful bass tone – a singing voice respected throughout the borough, and he played the trombone beautifully.
Tom was born on Stanley Street in Oswaldtwistle in 1936. Tom along with his twin brother David, older brothers Frank, Donald and Jack grew up in the family home in Roe Greave Road, Oswaldtwistle – a home Tom would remain in for the vast majority of his life. Tom served two years of National Service alongside David with the Royal Engineers. He enjoyed holidaying with David, his wife Rena and his two sons, visiting Blackpool, the Isle of Wight and Dawlish in Devon.
Tom had no children of his own, but he was utterly devoted to Barbara and to her family. He spent almost his entire working life as a craftsman joiner, working for firm Howard and Bullough in Accrington where the directors viewed him as a personal friend.
