Social media and chroniclers of high-end real estate have had a big time withan almost $4 million movie-themed behemoth a few blocks east of Dallas’ Love Field.
Its owner says the house has a boutique hotel vibe, but all I see is another chapter in Dallas’ sorry efforts to protect the little guy from losing out to builders and developers. A three-story home is under construction between the "Tron" house on the corner of Wateka Drive and one of the traditional small cottages that make up the rest of the block.on the Elm Thicket mess, where new has razed old and high-dollar replaced affordable in this neighborhood bounded by Lemmon Avenue, West Lovers Lane, Inwood Road and West Mockingbird Lane.
One of those residents, psychologist Myrna Dartson, told me it’s deeply disheartening to see what a fuss people are making over the Tron house. “This zoning vote is very important to us because we are trying to preserve the integrity of our neighborhood,” she said. “We feel almost bullied by what’s happening here.”
No thanks, say Capella Park residents, pointing to the long line of warehouses that line nearby Mountain Creek Parkway and Grady Niblo Road up to its dead-end half a mile from their neighborhood. A number of streets in the Capella Park neighborhood dead-end into green space that the community hopes will eventually be used for more single-family homes.
Having watched and rewatched the three hours that the plan commission devoted to this project July 7, I still can’t make sense of why staff approved this deal. No matter the stipulations on the industrial uses, this combination risks becoming toxic.
