“We won the election, elections have consequences,” President Trump said in defense of filling the Supreme Court vacancy. “Therefore, we have the right to choose her.” Joe Biden countered that Americans 'have the right' to have a say. DemDebates2020

The first subject of the night is the Supreme Court. Moderator Chris Wallace asked the moderators to defend their respective positions on filling the Supreme Court vacancy so soon before the election.

“We won the election, elections have consequences. We have the Senate, we have the White House, we have a phenomenal nominee,” Mr. Trump said. “Therefore, we have the right to choose her.” Mr. Biden said Americans “have the right” to have a say. “We should wait and see what the outcome of this election is,” he said. Mr. Biden said confirming the president’s nominee would result in ending the Affordable Care Act, which he said would affect millions of Americans. “It’s just not appropriate to do this before the election,” he said.

Mr. Biden said Roe v. Wade, a landmark Supreme Court decision protecting women’s right to get an abortion, was also at stake.
