BOILER-PIPE: Share on Twitter President Donald Trump on Monday announced the return of an American citizen who had been taken hostage by Yemeni rebels in 2017. “It is my honor today to announce that Danny Burch, a United States citizen who has been held hostage in Yemen for 18 months, has been recovered and reunited with his wife and children,” the president aboard Air Force One while en route to a summit with the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, in Hanoi, Vietnam.
” Story Continued Below Though Trump said that Burch had been held hostage since his abduction in September 2017, Reuters reported that he was released by his captors to Oman in January 2018. At the time of his abduction, Burch had worked for years as an engineer for a Yemeni oil company, The New York Times reported at the time. Burch was taken by members of the Houthi rebel group, which has waged civil war in Yemen against the central government since 2014.
