‘The biggest highlight,’ the president said, is ‘all the accomplishments’ predicting that he would have ‘many more highlights’ if reelected.
on Tuesday to point to specific “highlights” from his presidency, the latest instance in which he’s had trouble articulating his accomplishments and an agenda for a second term.... [+]Asked by NewsNation anchor Joe Donlon to name the “highlights” of his presidency, Trump said he had “many highlights” but was only able to name two: his 2016 victory, which he said “showed what could be done,” and the creation of Space Force.
“The biggest highlight,” Trump said, is “all of the achievements,” predicting that he will have “many more highlights” and that the next four years will be “incredible, added on together it will be something very unique.” Trump meandered when asked what the single most important quality he brings to the White House is, stating “I think I bring an aura that people know — I know what I’m doing, I know what is happening, I know where we should be going,” before rattling off a list of policy accomplishments and attacking Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
But Trump seemed to suggest self-advocacy is a secondary strategy to disparaging Biden, stating his “number one” strategy for winning a second term is “to convince people that Joe Biden is not fit for the position.” Nonetheless, Trump argued that he has had “one of the most successful administrations in history” and, asked if he will win in November, said, “Based on our achievements I should. Based on the enthusiasm I should.”Trump repeatedly failed to offer a cogent reelection argument earlier in the general election even when faced with friendly questioning from Fox News host Sean Hannity.
