But while the U.S. is in the midst of catastrophe, spirits in the White House seem to be improving. According to, the Trump administration is growing increasingly confident in their response—“feeling like they’re finally getting a handle on how to fight the disease,” the outlet Thursday. Despite a steady drumbeat of deaths, administration officials have grown optimistic about improved COVID treatments, vaccine progress, and the fact thathas occasionally donned a mask—a symbol, to some of his aides, of greater commitment to addressing the virus. “President Trump has led a historic, whole-of-America coronavirus response,” deputy press secretarytold the publication.
