Donald Trump is back in court today for his hush money trial, the first criminal case against a former US president. It's the start of the third week of evidence, following dramatic testimony from his ex-aide Hope Hicks on Friday.
Jeffrey McConney has stepped off the witness stand and the court is now taking a brief break.Trump was 'only signatory on cheques' - and he signed them at White House
In it, Weisselberg told McConney it was"okay" to pay Michael Cohen"as per agreement with Don and Eric".Asked if he sent this invoice to the legal department, McConney says he did not."Yes," McConney replies.Jeffrey McConney is shown a document which he says was kept inside a payroll book inside a locked drawer in his office. He say he knows this because"I've read his handwriting for about 35 years".
Jeffrey McConney says he"had conversations with him by the coffee machine" and he"was there as long as he was".McConney replies:"I had a conversation with Allen Weisselberg and Allen said we had to get some money to Michael to reimburse him.Weisselberg was the former chief financial officer at the Trump Organisation.Jeffrey McConney tells the court that he used to hand deliver Trump's weekly cash report.
Trump appears to laugh in his seat when McConney recounts the story about him pretending to fire him once when his cash balances went down."I'm an old-timer and liked to use a piece of paper," he says.He also says:"If it came by email, I would ask him to approve it that way.
As our US correspondent James Matthews has pointed out though, Trump may actually welcome these threats of jail from the judge .Jeffrey McConney, former Trump Organisation controller, has taken the stand.
