Closures remain in place near Nottingham Trent University's Clifton campus
Two people have been arrested after a serious crash in the early hours of this morning near a Nottingham Trent University campus. Closures remain in place on the A453 between Green Lane and Farnborough Road following the incident, which has left two passengers with life-threatening injuries.
Nottinghamshire Police says the incident took place at around 1.45am on Friday outside NTU's Clifton campus. Officers have now arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving and a 19-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving. Two cars - a Ford Fiesta and a BMW - were involved in the collision and a passenger from each vehicle has sustained injuries currently believed to be life-threatening. Sergeant Steve Waft, of Nottinghamshire Police's roads policing unit, said: "I appreciate the disruption that this incident will have caused, and I want to reassure motorists that we are working hard to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
"However, due to the extent of the collision, we are expecting the closure to remain in place for several hours while our inquiries are continuing, and we urge motorists to avoid the area if possible. I'd like to thank people for their patience and understanding as we continue to respond to this incident."
Anyone with information about the incident are asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 32 of September 20.
