Two towns in Greater Manchester have been recognised as being amongst the best places to buy your first home in the UK. A report from The Times has named 12 locations that are ideal spots for first-time buyers, taking into account factors from good-value properties to future prospects and investment in the area.
"The arrival of a host of exciting independent shops, bars and restaurants, many in the Underbanks area, is all the more welcome as Manchester's urban edge is blunted by a tide of luxury two-bed investment vehicles. "Good property options for first-timers include red-brick terraces plus the occasional flat in a converted mill."
The Times added: "There's character and community here too, with a good traditional pub scene and an annual festival to showcase local talent and bring Prestwich's diverse communities together. It has left its mark, not least on the walls that are now covered in giant murals of the local legends Victoria Wood and Mark E Smith, painted by the celebrated street artist Akse P19.
