Van Drew and Smith both voted against legislation to protect same-sex and interracial marriage.New Jersey’s two Republican congressmen voted against legislation Thursday to protect same-sex and interracial marriage.
The vote was 258-169. Every House Democrat, including all 10 from New Jersey, voted yes, along with 39 Republicans. Van Drew and Smith were joined by 167 other GOP lawmakers in opposition. “If you’re unwilling to use your premises for marriage between the same sex, the next step will be a potential lawsuit,” Smith said.
