The city of Aurora will hold ribbon-cuttings Friday at two new art galleries downtown.
The events will be part of the First Fridays celebration that Aurora Downtown, the not-for-profit that promotes downtown Aurora, holds every first Friday of the month.The first ribbon-cutting will be at 4:30 p.m. at The Nieponski Gallery at Crystal House, 59 S. LaSalle St.
The gallery is run by Chaz Nieponski, and features Nieponski’s own work as well as other work curated for the gallery.Nieponski studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and painted commissioned portraits and custom work, city officials said. Nieponski owned and operated an art supply store as well as an art gallery.
The second ribbon-cutting will be at 5:30 p.m. at The Nolan Gallery, 33 S. Stolp Ave., in the lower level. The Nolan Gallery is owned by photographer Nolan W. McCants, who does framed fine art photography. Not only is the gallery open for viewing and purchase of the art, it can be rented for events, according to officials.
Tickets are required for the ribbon-cuttings, but after they’re done, both galleries will be open to the public.
