A new exhibition in Paris shows the beauty of pre-war Ukraine in photographs.
On February 23, as Russian troops were gathering at the border of Ukraine, Olga Sushko and Sonya Kvasha, who are Ukrainian but now live in Paris, wanted to do something to support their colleagues and friends back home. By the time the duo dreamt up their exhibition the next day, Russia had invaded Ukraine.
Aside from a harrowing five-day journey in which Sushko had to leave Paris to rescue her parents at the Romania-Ukraine border, the two women worked to source images from their photographer contacts. They received more than 100 submissions, eventually whittling the selection down to 40 images of pre-war Ukraine.
Currently, each print is available for $130. They eventually want to release digital versions for purchase. The exhibition itself will be held at the Sheriff Gallery in Paris and runs from March 17 to 26. All proceeds will go to humanitarian assistance for Ukrainians through the official charity fund of the National Bank of Ukraine.“July” by Daniil Kotlyar“Untiled” by Yelena YemchukAll the essentials: top fashion stories, editor’s picks, and celebrity style.
