Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia is set to depart the club on a loan deal for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old has struggled with injuries since joining the club in 2022 and is expected to join a top European team to continue his development.
After nearly two years of battling injuries, Tyrell Malacia is set to leave Manchester United during this transfer window, according to reports. The 25-year-old recently returned to the pitch after a challenging period sidelined by a knee injury that required two surgeries. Despite being a natural fit for the left wing-back position in Ruben Amorim 's team, Malacia's time at Old Trafford appears to be coming to an end.
Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof claims that Malacia will depart for the remainder of the season to further his development. By that point, he will have only 12 months remaining on his initial four-year contract with the club, and there are no indications that an extension clause will be activated. While the destination of Malacia's loan remains undisclosed, Blaauwhof reports that Amorim has given his approval for a six-month exit. According to Blaauwhof, Malacia has already agreed to join a top European club. A permanent transfer in the summer transfer window is also not entirely out of the question. Manchester United signed Malacia for just over £10 million in 2022 as one of Erik ten Hag's initial signings. However, his injury-ridden spell has significantly impacted his market value. United has turned to Diogo Dalot, who has been deployed in an unfamiliar left-sided role. Luke Shaw, another player well-suited to the wing-back system when fit, has also been hampered by injuries over the past two years. Malacia played the entire extra time in last weekend's penalty shootout victory over Arsenal but has otherwise only managed to complete 45 minutes in his two Premier League appearances. Amorim substituted Malacia at halftime during the 2-0 and 3-0 defeats to Arsenal and Bournemouth last month. He featured briefly for the Under-21 side in the EFL Cup and made progress towards a return in the Europa League. Malacia has been left out of the starting lineup for the last four Premier League matches
