The United States recorded more than 1,000 COVID-related deaths on Tuesday and again on Wednesday -- a mortality level not seen since last spring.

Since the Delta variant began sweeping across the U.S., deaths have risen and are now averaging almost 800 per day, the highest rate since mid-April.News Agency tallied 1,017 COVID deaths on Tuesday and 1,185 on Wednesday. The last time the U.S. had more than 1,000 deaths on a regular basis was last March, when the national vaccination program began to show success.
The U.S. has recorded more than 624,000 COVID-related deaths since the pandemic began in early 2020, the most of any nation,Infections are also rising, with the U.S. averaging more than 100,000 new daily cases for the last 12 days, hitting a six-month high, Reuters said. Most of the deaths and new cases are occurring in parts of the country with low vaccination rates, mostly in the South and Midwest.
