The Covid-19 pandemic and mandatory social distancing measures caused video game spending in the U.S. to skyrocket to new heights through the second quarter, according to a new report by MattRyanPerez
Emblematic of Nintendo’s prominence as a pseudo “getaway” during the pandemic, the company also announced it had sold a staggering 22.4 million copies of, a relaxing life simulator that launched in March and has already cemented itself as the second-bestselling game in the Switch library.
“During the pandemic, many have turned to video games not only to keep them preoccupied, but also to stay in touch with family and friends,” said Mat Piscatella, NPD’s games analyst. “This has resulted in an acceleration of what were already established trends toward heightened video game player engagement. I don’t see any signs of this slowing down.
