Uber and Lyft prices are staying stubbornly high, despite drivers returning to the ride-hailing platforms
. But for customers, true recovery still seems out of reach. In cities across the US, the price of a ride remains stubbornly high as the surge-pricing era rolls along, new data shows.
The numbers stand in contrast to the more optimistic tone Uber and Lyft executives struck in earnings calls last week. Lyft CEO Logan Green said driver supply was up 45% compared with the same quarter last year. Uber revealed its numbers were up 65% from January, bringing on an additional 640,000 drivers.
The situation on the ground in specific cities can influence this data. Las Vegas and other towns have periodically banned surge pricing, then lifted those restrictions, influencing the price of rides. Meanwhile, Uber and Lyft trips to the airport have increased as the US has reopened and people take more flights.

United States sues Uber over alleged disability discriminationWASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Justice Department on Wednesday sued ride-sharing service Uber Technologies Inc over allegations of overcharging people with disabilities, and asked a federal court to order the company to comply with a federal law protecting the disabled from discrimination. The Justice Department's lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco, takes aim against an April 2016 policy by Uber of charging passengers 'wait time' fees - a practice started in several cities that was eventually expanded nationwide. It alleges that the policy discriminates against people with disabilities, in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, saying that disabled people such as the blind or those who use wheelchairs or walkers need more than two minutes to get into an Uber car.
