Tritons were scheduled to host Cal Poly on Thursday on Senior Night, then play at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, but those games canceled because of COVID-related health and safety protocols

UC San Diego’s men’s basketball team canceled the final two games of the season on Wednesday because of COVID-related health and safety protocols.

The Tritons were scheduled to host Cal Poly on Thursday for Senior Night, then close the season Saturday at Cal State Fullerton. Seniors Jace Roquemore and Jake Kosakowski, both starters, were slated to be honored before the game against Cal Poly. The two games were the first that UCSD canceled this season. The Tritons finished the season 10-20, 5-13 in the Big West. In 2020-21 the Tritons had 12 games canceled then three more last season.UCSD also will not play in next week’s Big West Tournament, which determines the conference’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA Tournament.

The Tritons are in the third year of an NCAA-mandated four-year reclassification from Div. II to Div. I. It was the Big West’s decision to not permit the Tritons to play in the postseason tournament.
