LOS ANGELES — Coach Chip Kelly and the UCLA football team have reached the final week of training camp and started preparation on Coastal Carolina, but with the season opener still over a week away, the game plan has yet to be relayed to the players.
The rest of this week may serve as the final opportunity for the Bruins’ quarterbacks to audition for the starting role. Over two seasons as the backup to Thompson-Robinson, Garbers completed 57 of 88 passes for 599 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions in 12 games. In his first start in 2021 for an injured Thompson-Robinson, he completed 27 of 44 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 36 yards in a loss at Utah.“It’s a great quarterback room,”
“We have time before the first game,” Kelly said. “We’re right on track with where we want to be and those guys are doing a great job with reps and taking advantage of the opportunities that they have.Kelly stated at Pac-12 Media Day in July that there aren’t any specific qualities he is looking for other than choosing the guy who gives the Bruins “the best chance to win going into the opening game.
The Bruins are expected to have a depth chart next week, but the quarterback competition could continue into the season with multiple quarterbacks playing against the Chanticleers.“I’m comfortable with all of them,” Clemens said. “They are all good guys.
