“We are being naive if we assume that China won’t attack Taiwan. All the evidence suggests that planning to attack Taiwan has been increasing not decreasing.
Taiwan has since considered itself a sovereign state, with its own constitution and government but China sees it as a breakaway province. Ms Kearns said the latest Chinese drills in the region demonstrate why recognition of the threat posed by China towards Taiwan was “so important” and encouraged the UK and Taiwan to maintain open channels of communication.
