By Ed Frankl U.K. retail sales fell more than expected in July, as unseasonably wet weather in the month kept shoppers away despite the summer sales season.
The reading will disappoint retailers hoping to attract consumers in the traditional summer promotional period. Inflation in July was 6.8%, dipping from its rate in June, but still elevated by historical standards, while food prices were 14.9% higher in July than in the same month of 2022.
